Welsh Medium Schools

The Menter has developed close links with Welsh Medium Primary Schools in our area. We run two After School Clubs (Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bryn Onnen and Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg y Fenni) to provide opportunities for children to play through the medium of Welsh at the end of the school day.

We also support activities within the schools such as art projects, Ukulele clubs and Lego and video games clubs and also arrange and contribute towards fun mornings so that families have the opportunity to socialise in a Welsh language setting.

We also work with the two Welsh medium secondary schools in the area, which are Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Gwynllyw (Pontypool) and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Gwent Is-coed (Newport) and arrange several events in Gwynllyw including a Vlogging Club, Language Forum activities and a Battle of the Bands Club. Menter BGTM supported Gwynllyw's Musical production which led to the school staging the ‘Dal Sownd’ show (adaptation of Hairspray) in the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran. We have also supported the work of Menter Iaith Casnewydd (Newport Welsh Language Initiative) with the Gwent Is-coed Language Forum by conducting video games sessions, quizzes and other activities.
